Our default timber for chairs. Dense, elastic and free of large knots, it holds dowelled joints extremely well.

Materials
Materials and finishes
We do not sell "premium materials" in the abstract. Below is exactly what we use, what each one suits, and what we do not recommend.
Solid wood
All our frames are solid wood, kiln-dried to 8–10% moisture. Under-dried timber warps in the first heating season and the joints start to creak.
Oak
Harder than beech with a pronounced grain. Used when the fibre should be visible rather than covered by paint.
- Best for
- Table tops, exposed legs, oil finishes
- Not recommended for
- Opaque white paint — it wastes the material
Ash
The lightest of the three, with long elastic fibres. Ideal for steam-bent backs.
- Best for
- Bent backs, Scandinavian pieces
- Not recommended for
- Very dark tones — the grain goes blotchy
Fabrics
We hold over 120 fabrics in stock. The criterion that matters most is not colour but abrasion resistance, measured in Martindale cycles. Below 20,000 we do not recommend it for daily use.
Upholstery textile (20,000–40,000 Martindale)
The balanced choice for homes. Matte texture, a wide palette, reasonable price.

- Homes with cats — the threads snag
Velvet
The richest look in the catalogue. Modern polyester-based velvet does not crush like the classic kind and cleans easily.
- Best for
- Armchairs, Verona chairs, accent pieces
- Not recommended for
- Kitchen chairs where you cook heavily — it holds odours
Bouclé
A looped, textured fabric, heavily in demand in recent years. It looks excellent, but the loops can pull if snagged.
- Best for
- The Milano chair, decorative living-room pieces
- Not recommended for
- Homes with pets or small children
Contract textile (40,000+ Martindale)
The mandatory fabric for restaurants and hotels. Stain-treated and, in most cases, flame-retardant.
- Best for
- HoReCa, waiting areas, public spaces
- Not recommended for
- Nothing — the texture is simply firmer to the touch
Leather
Two different things are sold under the same word, so we spell it out: full-grain leather patinates, eco-leather wears out. Both have their place.
Aniline full-grain leather
Leather with an untreated surface that absorbs light and builds a patina over time. Scratches fade when rubbed by hand.

- The Lord armchair, pieces you want to look better in ten years
- Not recommended for
- Homes with toddlers — liquid stains soak in
Corrected leather
Full-grain leather with a protective coat. It lacks the depth of aniline but cleans with a damp cloth.
- Best for
- Hotels, offices, families with children
- Not recommended for
- When you want a look that evolves over time
Eco-leather
A synthetic material on a textile backing. It looks good and costs 60% less, but its life is finite — 5 to 8 years in domestic use.
- Best for
- Bar stools, tight budgets, spaces that get redecorated often
- Not recommended for
- Pieces you intend to keep for fifteen years
Fillings and finishes
The part you never see, but which decides whether you still like the chair in five years.
35 kg/m³ foam
The minimum density we use for seats. Below this, foam visibly flattens within the first year.

Serpentine springs
Used in armchairs and sofas, under the foam. They give a spring the webbing alone cannot provide.
- Best for
- Imperial and Lord armchairs, sofas
- Not recommended for
- Dining chairs — they become too soft
Hard oil-wax
A finish that penetrates the wood rather than forming a film. A scratch is repaired locally, without redoing the whole surface.
- Best for
- Table tops, oak legs
- Not recommended for
- Surfaces in permanent contact with water
Matte polyurethane lacquer
A hard film suited to HoReCa and opaque tones. Cleans with a neutral detergent.
- Best for
- Restaurant chairs, black and white finishes
- Not recommended for
- When you want to feel the wood grain
